Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 quart water
  • 1 tablespoon powdered alum
  • 3 drops oil of cloves

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, and powdered alum together in a bowl.
  2. Slowly stir in 1 cup of cold water until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Bring the remaining 3 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan.
  4. Add the dry mixture to the boiling water, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
  5. Continue cooking in a double boiler for about 30 minutes, stirring constantly.
  6. Remove from heat and add 3 drops of oil of cloves.
  7. Store in a jar and keep moist by adding a small piece of wet sponge on top.
