Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2/3 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar, and sugar in a bowl.
  3. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the beaten egg and milk, stirring just until combined.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into paper-lined muffin tins.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
