Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. With an electric mixer at high speed, cream the butter until soft.
  2. Gradually add sugar and continue to cream for about 5 minutes until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg yolks and vanilla; beat well to combine.
  4. Add flour in three additions, mixing well after each addition; the dough will be stiff.
  5. Shape the dough into two rolls; wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Slice the dough or put by spoonfuls on a cookie sheet.
  7. Sprinkle with colored sugar if desired.
  8. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes or until the edges are just starting to turn light golden, being careful not to overbake.
