Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cake or package of yeast
  • 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, hot water, sugar, and salt until well combined.
  2. Allow the mixture to cool.
  3. Dissolve yeast in warm water, then add the beaten egg.
  4. Add the yeast mixture and enough flour to make a soft dough.
  5. Let the dough rise for 2 1/2 hours.
  6. Roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and spread with melted butter.
  7. Cut with a small cutter, fold in half, and pinch the edges together.
  8. Place the pinched edges up on a greased pan and let rise for 1 hour.
  9. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F for 20 minutes.
