Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 package chocolate bits
  • 1 cup crushed walnuts

Instructions

  1. Beat together the white sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  2. Add the flour, rolled oats, and shortening; mix until well combined.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly in an ungreased cookie sheet.
  4. Bake in a 350°F oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. While baking, melt the chocolate bits in a small saucepan.
  6. Spread the melted chocolate over the warm bars.
  7. Sprinkle crushed walnuts over the melted chocolate while still warm.
  8. Allow the bars to cool, then cut into squares.
