Ingredients

  • 1 cake yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup milk, scalded
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 4 to 5 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Scald milk and add sugar, salt, and shortening; stir until dissolved.
  2. Cool the mixture to lukewarm temperature.
  3. Add enough flour to make a thick batter and beat until smooth.
  4. Incorporate the yeast mixture and beaten eggs; mix well.
  5. Add additional flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
