Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups unsifted flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt like pie crust.
  2. Cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add buttermilk and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Break off 1-inch balls of dough.
  5. Roll each ball on a floured board to about 5 inches in diameter.
  6. Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 400°F for 5 minutes.
  7. Optionally, flip the pieces over and bake for a few more minutes until golden.
