Ingredients

  • 3/4 cake compressed yeast or 1 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon softened butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Soak the yeast, 1/2 cup warm water, and 1/4 cup sugar together until the yeast is activated.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients: 1 1/2 cups warm water, 3/4 cups milk, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons salt, and 1 tablespoon softened butter or margarine. Mix well.
  3. Let the dough rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  4. On a floured surface, form the dough into round, flat buns about sandwich meat size.
  5. Place the buns on baking pans and let rise again until puffy, about 30 minutes.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown, approximately 15 minutes.
