- Soak the yeast, 1/2 cup warm water, and 1/4 cup sugar together until the yeast is activated.
- Add the remaining ingredients: 1 1/2 cups warm water, 3/4 cups milk, 1/2 cup sugar, 2 teaspoons salt, and 1 tablespoon softened butter or margarine. Mix well.
- Let the dough rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- On a floured surface, form the dough into round, flat buns about sandwich meat size.
- Place the buns on baking pans and let rise again until puffy, about 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) until golden brown, approximately 15 minutes.
