Ingredients

  • 16 lb. cucumbers
  • 1 gal. red vinegar
  • 10 lb. sugar
  • 1 box pickling spice
  • 1/2 box alum
  • salt (enough to float an egg)

Instructions

  1. Soak the cucumbers in brine water for 14 days.
  2. Remove the cucumbers, slice them, and soak in alum water overnight.
  3. Rinse the cucumbers, cover with vinegar, and let set for 6 hours.
  4. Drain the vinegar and discard.
