Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 5 1/2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast with 3/4 cup warm water; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix sugar, butter, salt, and hot water; let cool.
  3. Add egg, yeast mixture, and flour to the bowl.
  4. Let the dough rise, then punch it down.
  5. Divide the dough into 3 parts and roll each into a rectangle.
  6. Cover each rectangle with soft butter.
  7. Sprinkle with sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  8. Roll each rectangle up lengthwise and form a circle; pinch the edges together.
  9. Cut slits across the top with scissors and turn up the angles.
  10. Let the rolls rise again.
  11. Bake at 400°F (200°C) until brown, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  12. Allow to cool.
  13. Prepare sugar glaze with powdered sugar and hot water.
  14. Trim the rolls with pecans and cherries, then drizzle with glaze.
