Ingredients

  • 1 lb. round light (seedless) rye bread
  • 1 lb. Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 lb. butter, softened
  • 1 Tbsp. prepared mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. poppy seed
  • 2 Tbsp. minced onion flakes
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Take the top off the loaf and cut grids 1 1/2 inches apart almost to the bottom.
  2. Place slices of Swiss cheese into each slot of the bread.
  3. Blend together the softened butter, prepared mustard, poppy seed, minced onion flakes, and lemon juice.
  4. Spread the mixture on top of the bread like icing.
  5. Place the bread in a round pan and bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove from the oven and cool for 2 minutes before serving.
