- In a medium bowl, combine hot water and sugar cane syrup or molasses, stirring until well blended.
- Stir in milk until blended.
- In a large bowl, mix whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Fold in the roasted, coarsely chopped pecans.
- Pour the batter into greased or lined muffin tins.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
