Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups walnuts
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 (6 oz.) package semi-sweet or milk chocolate pieces

Instructions

  1. Coarsely chop 1 1/2 cups of walnuts for toffee.
  2. Finely chop remaining 3/4 cup walnuts for topping.
  3. In a 2-quart glass measuring cup with a handle, combine sugar, water, corn syrup, and butter.
  4. Microwave at High for 5 minutes.
  5. Stir well until sugar dissolves.
  6. Microwave at High for 16 to 20 minutes or until mixture reaches 300°F.
  7. Stir in the coarsely chopped walnuts and quickly spread in a buttered 15 x 10 inch cookie sheet.
  8. Let the toffee stand until cooled completely.
  9. Place chocolate in a 3-cup glass measuring cup.
  10. Microwave at High for 30 seconds; stir to melt completely.
  11. Spread the melted chocolate over the cooled toffee.
  12. Sprinkle finely chopped walnuts evenly over the chocolate.
  13. Let stand several hours until chocolate is set, then break into pieces.
