Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoon shortening

Instructions

  1. Mix and sift dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Cut in shortening with a fork until the mixture is mealy.
  3. Beat the egg and add it to the milk.
  4. Add the egg-milk mixture carefully to the dry ingredients, mixing lightly.
  5. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured board or paper.
  6. Roll the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  7. Cut with a biscuit cutter into rounds.
  8. Spread one biscuit with soft butter, then place a second biscuit on top.
  9. Place the assembled biscuits in a slightly floured pan.
