Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. orange flavoring
  • 5 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 8 to 10 egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in eggs one or two at a time until well incorporated.
  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with water, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  5. Stir in vanilla and orange flavoring.
  6. Pour batter evenly into three 8-inch pans or two 9-inch pans.
  7. Bake at 350°F for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Frost with Seven Minute Icing once cooled.
