Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, consider mixing in some cooked chorizo or diced bell peppers with the cheese. If you're looking for a lighter option, substitute part of the whole milk with unsweetened almond milk. Ensure the baking dish is well-sprayed to prevent sticking. This dish can also be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge overnight before baking.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Texas Breakfast Rellenos warm, topped with fresh salsa and a dollop of sour cream for an extra kick. Pair it with a side of Calabasitas for a delicious breakfast spread. This dish also goes well with fresh fruit or a light salad to balance the richness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of cheese?

Absolutely! Feel free to experiment with other cheeses such as Pepper Jack for extra heat, or even a sharp white cheddar for a different flavor profile. Just ensure that the cheese melts well to maintain the creamy texture.

Is there a vegetarian alternative for the biscuit mix?

Yes, you can use a homemade version of biscuit mix using flour, baking powder, and salt if you prefer to avoid processed ingredients. This will keep the dish vegetarian-friendly while still providing the necessary texture.

Can this dish be frozen for later use?

Yes, you can freeze the unbaked mixture for up to 2 months. Just make sure to wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then foil. When ready to bake, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and then bake as directed.
