Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and salt in a mixing bowl.
  2. Blend in shortening (or butter) using a pastry blender.
  3. Beat the egg and add enough water to make 2/3 cup of liquid.
  4. Combine all ingredients with a fork until mixed.
  5. Knead into a smooth ball.
  6. Divide the dough in half.
  7. Roll each half as thin as possible with a rolling pin.
  8. Cut the rolled dough into 1-inch squares.
  9. Drop the squares into hot chicken broth.
  10. Simmer for 30 minutes.
