Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 c. tepid water
  • 1 c. warm milk
  • 1/4 c. melted butter
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp. salt

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar and yeast in tepid water. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes, until foamy.
  2. Mix milk, butter, sugar, egg, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Stir in yeast mixture and 3 1/2 cups flour, adding a bit more to make a soft, pliable dough.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured board and let rest while you clean and butter the bowl.
  5. Knead dough for 4 to 5 minutes, adding flour if necessary.
  6. Return to bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  7. Butter muffin tins.
  8. Punch down the dough.
  9. Pinch off pieces to fill 1/2 of each muffin cup and roll into balls.
  10. Place 2 balls into each muffin cup.
  11. Cover loosely with plastic and let rise for 45 minutes.
  12. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  13. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
