  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool and chill for 30 minutes before cutting.

Tips & Substitutions

For a smoother caramel, ensure the caramels are fully melted before mixing. If you prefer a nut-free version, simply omit the pecans or substitute with sunflower seeds. You can also use a yellow or chocolate cake mix for a different flavor profile. For added richness, consider using dark chocolate bits instead of regular ones.

Serving Suggestions

These caramel brownies are delicious on their own, but you can elevate the experience by serving them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. They also pair beautifully with coffee or a rich milkshake. For a fun twist, try serving with a drizzle of chocolate sauce or a sprinkle of sea salt for contrast.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to a week. To reheat, place individual servings in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds until warm, or enjoy them chilled straight from the fridge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of cake mix?

Yes, you can use a yellow or chocolate cake mix as a substitute for German chocolate cake mix. This will give your brownies a different flavor while still maintaining the rich, gooey texture.

What can I use instead of canned milk?

If you don't have canned milk, you can substitute with regular milk or half-and-half for a creamier texture. Just keep in mind that the consistency may vary slightly.

How do I know when the brownies are done baking?

The brownies are done when the edges start to pull away from the sides of the pan and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Be careful not to overbake for the best texture.
