Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread (12 inches long)
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 (5 oz.) jar sharp spreading cheese

Instructions

  1. Cut the loaf in half lengthwise horizontally.
  2. Cut each half into 2-inch diagonal slices, cutting to, but not through, the bottom crust. Place on a baking sheet.
  3. Blend the butter and cheese until smooth.
  4. Spread the cheese mixture between the slices and over the top of the bread.
  5. Bake in a hot oven at 400°F until the cheese is melted and the bread is crusty, about 15 minutes.
  6. Serve immediately.
