Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 large onions, diced
  • 1 package (6 oz.) plain croutons
  • 6 large tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon dry basil or 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • 3 cups (12 oz.) shredded Danish Havarti cheese

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, medium heat, sauté onions in butter for about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in croutons and sauté for another 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. In a well-greased 2-quart casserole, layer croutons with onions and tomatoes, sprinkled with basil and cheese.
  4. Finish with tomatoes and cheese.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 40 minutes.
