Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 1/4 c. warm water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c. melted butter
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 5 1/2 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
  2. Add eggs, flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture and mix to form a soft dough.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead until smooth.
  4. Place the dough back into a bowl and let it rise until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and knead briefly.
  6. Roll the dough until thin on a floured surface.
  7. Spread butter over the rolled dough.
  8. Roll up the dough jelly roll style and cut into 1-inch slices.
  9. Place the slices in a greased muffin tin and let rise until puffy.
  10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Brush the baked topknots with melted butter before serving.
