Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 3/4 to 7/8 cup lukewarm water

Instructions

  1. Sift flour and salt together in a bowl.
  2. Work in shortening using a fork until well combined.
  3. Stir in lukewarm water gradually until dough forms a ball.
  4. Knead the dough for 2 minutes until smooth.
  5. Divide the dough into 12 equal parts and cover with a moist cloth.
  6. Let the dough balls stand for 15 minutes.
  7. Roll out each ball into a circle about 7 inches in diameter.
  8. Heat a lightly greased skillet over medium heat.
  9. Cook each tortilla on both sides until lightly browned and cooked through.
