Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 sticks oleo
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Bring oleo, water, and cocoa to a boil.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Pour the boiling oleo, water, and cocoa mixture into the flour mixture and stir well.
  4. Add eggs, soda, buttermilk, and vanilla to the mixture and beat until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased, oblong pan.
  6. Bake in a 350°F oven for approximately 35 minutes.
  7. Begin icing during the last 5 minutes of baking.
