Ingredients

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda

Instructions

  1. Cream together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and shortening.
  2. Add eggs to the creamed mixture and beat well.
  3. Spoon the flour into a dry measuring cup without sifting.
  4. Level off the flour and pour it onto a square of waxed paper.
  5. Add salt and soda to the flour and stir to blend.
  6. Gradually add the blended dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  7. Divide the dough into 3 portions for different variations.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15 to 18 minutes.
