Delicious turtle cake squares combine caramel, chocolate, and nuts for a rich, sweet treat, perfect for dessert lovers and family gatherings alike.

Ingredients

  • 14 oz. bag caramel squares
  • 5 oz. can evaporated milk
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 box German Chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts
  • 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Melt caramels and 1/4 cup evaporated milk in a heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly; or microwave for 3 minutes, stirring after each minute. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the German Chocolate cake mix according to package instructions and spread evenly in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  3. Pour the melted caramel mixture over the cake batter.
  4. Sprinkle finely chopped nuts over the caramel layer.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Once baked, sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips over the hot cake and let sit until melted.
  7. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top.
  8. Allow to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
