Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 14 oz. caramels
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 6 oz. chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Combine the cake mix, melted butter, and 1/2 cup evaporated milk until well blended.
  2. Pour three-quarters of the batter into a well-greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
  3. Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, melt the caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk until smooth.
  5. Pour the caramel mixture over the partially baked cake.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the caramel layer.
  7. Add pecans over the chocolate chips if desired.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the top of the cake.
  9. Bake at 350°F for an additional 25 minutes until the top is golden and set.
