- Empty the caramels into a saucepan with 1/3 cup of evaporated milk.
- Melt the caramels, stirring constantly until smooth.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, 1/3 cup of evaporated milk, melted butter, and chopped nuts.
- Press two-thirds of the cake mixture into a greased and floured 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
- Bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips over the baked mixture.
- Spread the caramel mixture evenly over the chocolate chips.
- Drop spoonfuls of the remaining cake mixture on top of the caramel layer.
- Bake for an additional 20 to 25 minutes until golden.
- Allow to cool slightly before cutting while warm.
