Ingredients

  • 2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 (11 1/2 oz.) pkg. milk chocolate chips
  • 1 (14 oz.) can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 Tbsp. coffee cream or milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, over low heat, melt semi-sweet chocolate chips with 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk, 1 tablespoon cream, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  2. Remove from heat; stir in 1/2 cup walnuts. Spread into an aluminum foil-lined 9-inch square pan.
  3. In another saucepan, over low heat, melt milk chocolate chips with remaining sweetened condensed milk, 1 tablespoon cream, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  4. Remove from heat; stir in remaining 1/2 cup walnuts. Spread over the first layer of fudge in the pan.
  5. Chill for 2 hours or until firm.
  6. Turn fudge onto a cutting board; peel off foil and cut into squares.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using high-quality chocolate chips or adjusting the ratio of semi-sweet to milk chocolate. You can substitute the walnuts with pecans or even omit them entirely for a nut-free version. Ensure you line the pan with foil for easy removal, and let the fudge cool completely before slicing for cleaner cuts.

Serving Suggestions

Cut the fudge into small squares and serve on a decorative platter for a delightful treat at parties or gatherings. It pairs beautifully with coffee or hot chocolate, making it a great dessert after a meal. For a festive touch, consider drizzling melted chocolate over the top or dusting with powdered sugar.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. If you want to extend its shelf life, you can freeze it; just make sure to wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and foil. Thaw at room temperature before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet?

Yes, you can substitute dark chocolate chips for semi-sweet chocolate chips if you prefer a more intense chocolate flavor. Just keep in mind that this may alter the overall sweetness of the fudge, so you might want to adjust the amount of sweetened condensed milk accordingly.

How can I make this fudge gluten-free?

This recipe is naturally gluten-free as it does not contain any flour or gluten-containing ingredients. However, always check the labels of the chocolate chips and condensed milk to ensure they are certified gluten-free to avoid any cross-contamination.

What can I add to the fudge for extra flavor?

You can enhance the flavor by adding a pinch of sea salt, a splash of espresso, or even some orange zest to the chocolate mixture. Experimenting with spices like cinnamon or nutmeg can also give your fudge a unique twist that complements the chocolate beautifully.
