Ingredients

  • 6 to 7 cups unsifted flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 3/4 cup margarine

Instructions

  1. In large bowl, thoroughly mix 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, orange peel, and dry yeast.
  2. Combine 1 cup of milk, water, and margarine in a saucepan and heat over low heat until liquids are very warm (120° to 130°).
  3. Margarine does not have to melt completely.
  4. Gradually add this mixture to dry ingredients and beat two minutes at medium speed of electric mixer.
  5. Scrape bowl occasionally.
  6. Add eggs and 3/4 cup of flour, beating at high speed for two minutes and scraping bowl periodically.
  7. Stir in enough additional flour to make a soft dough.
  8. Turn onto floured board and knead until smooth and elastic (about 8 to 10 minutes).
  9. Place in greased bowl, turning often to grease the entire dough.
