- Add 1 cup salt to the sliced cucumbers.
- Cover with water; let set for 3 days.
- Drain the cucumbers.
- Wash in cold water.
- Add the alum; cover with water for 24 hours.
- Rinse in cold water 3 times.
- Put cucumbers back in the jar.
- Cover with vinegar.
- Let set for 7 days.
- Drain the vinegar.
- Add 3 cups sugar, a small bag of spices, and 1 teaspoon turmeric.
- Let stand for 24 hours.
- Add 2 more cups of sugar.
- On the third day, add 2 more cups of sugar.
- Your pickles are done!
