Ingredients

  • 1 gallon cucumbers, sliced
  • 1 cup salt
  • 3 teaspoons alum
  • vinegar
  • small bag spices
  • turmeric

Instructions

  1. Add 1 cup salt to the sliced cucumbers.
  2. Cover with water; let set for 3 days.
  3. Drain the cucumbers.
  4. Wash in cold water.
  5. Add the alum; cover with water for 24 hours.
  6. Rinse in cold water 3 times.
  7. Put cucumbers back in the jar.
  8. Cover with vinegar.
  9. Let set for 7 days.
  10. Drain the vinegar.
  11. Add 3 cups sugar, a small bag of spices, and 1 teaspoon turmeric.
  12. Let stand for 24 hours.
  13. Add 2 more cups of sugar.
  14. On the third day, add 2 more cups of sugar.
  15. Your pickles are done!
