Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Alternately add flour and milk to the mixture, beginning and ending with flour, and beat after each addition.
  4. Stir in 1 teaspoon baking powder with the last portion of flour, then add vanilla and lemon extracts.
  5. Pour batter into a well-greased and floured 9-inch tube pan.
  6. Bake at 200°F for 45 minutes, then increase the oven temperature to 350°F and bake for an additional 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a tester inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from oven and cool in the pan for 15 minutes.
  8. Turn out the cake onto a wire rack to cool completely.
