Waldorf Salad (Jello)

- Completely dissolve the gelatin and salt in boiling water.
- Combine cold water and ice cubes to make 2 1/2 cups.
- Add the cold water and ice to the gelatin mixture, stirring until slightly thickened. Remove any unmelted ice if necessary.
- Fold in the diced apples or pears, sliced bananas, and sliced celery.
- Spoon the mixture into individual dishes or a bowl.
- Chill until set, at least 1 hour.
