Crisp, nutty walnut strip cookies feature a tender cinnamon-spiced base topped with chopped walnuts, perfect for a sweet snack or delightful addition to any cookie platter.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 10 x 15-inch jelly roll pan.
  3. Mix sugar, margarine or butter, and egg yolk until well combined.
  4. Add flour and cinnamon to the mixture and mix thoroughly.
  5. Press the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
  6. Beat the egg white and water until foamy.
  7. Brush the foamy egg white mixture over the dough.
  8. Sprinkle chopped walnuts evenly over the top.
  9. Bake until very light brown, about 20 to 25 minutes.
  10. Immediately cut into strips about 3 x 1 inches while still warm.
