A rich, savory warm bacon dressing with a hint of sweetness and tang, perfect for drizzling over crisp lettuce or endive for a flavorful appetizer or salad.

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Fry the 6 slices of bacon until crisp.
  2. Remove the bacon and set aside on paper towels.
  3. Add 1 cup of water to the bacon grease and bring to a boil.
  4. In a separate bowl, make a paste with flour, salt, sugar, and 1/4 cup water.
  5. Beat the large egg well and stir it into the paste mixture.
  6. Remove the water mixture from heat and slowly stir in the egg mixture.
  7. Return the mixture to heat and stir until it thickens.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup vinegar.
  9. Add the cooked bacon pieces right before serving over lettuce or endive.
