Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • 2 c. boiling water
  • 2 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1/4 c. wheat germ
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 2/3 c. honey
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. rye flour

Instructions

  1. Soak oatmeal in 2 cups boiling water.
  2. Soften yeast in 1/4 cup warm water.
  3. Add wheat germ, molasses, honey, egg and salt to oatmeal and water.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Add yeast.
  6. (Optional:
  7. Mix in 1 cup sunflower seeds.)
  8. Add rye flour and wheat flour to the mix. Add enough flour to make a kneadable dough.
  9. Knead.
  10. Let rise until double.
  11. Separate into 2 loaves.
  12. Let rise again.
  13. Bake at 450° for 15 minutes.
  14. Reduce oven to 350° for about 30 minutes.
