Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 package onion soup mix
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1/2 to 1 cup raw rice
  • 1 cup stewed tomatoes or 1 can tomato sauce with bits

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet, stirring frequently.
  2. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Stir in the onion soup mix, water, rice, peas, and stewed tomatoes or tomato sauce.
  4. Simmer covered until the rice is tender, about 20 to 25 minutes, adding water or tomato juice if it becomes dry.
  5. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Cover and heat until the cheese melts, or serve individual portions with cheese as desired.
  7. Serve hot.
