  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 1 small can Ro-Tel tomatoes
  • 1 small jug ketchup
  • 1/2 jug water
  • salt, pepper and sugar to taste

Instructions

  1. Lightly brown flour with onions in oil; do not burn onions.
  2. Add all the liquids, salt, pepper to taste, plus 1 teaspoon sugar.
  3. Add sliced wieners to the mixture.
  4. Cook over low heat for about 45 minutes.
  5. Serve over rice.

Tips & Substitutions

For a thicker gravy, add more flour gradually until the desired consistency is reached. If you're out of tomato sauce, you can substitute with crushed tomatoes or pureed canned tomatoes. To enhance the flavor, consider adding a dash of Worcestershire sauce or hot sauce. For a healthier twist, try using turkey or chicken wieners instead of pork.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Wiener Gravy over a bed of fluffy rice for a comforting meal. It pairs beautifully with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad, like Kelly's Favorite Potato Salad, for a complete dinner. You can also serve it with crusty bread to soak up the delicious gravy.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the gravy in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally. You can also microwave it in a covered bowl, stirring every minute until heated through. If it thickens too much, add a splash of water to loosen it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different types of sausages for this recipe?

Yes, you can substitute the Bar S wieners with any favorite sausage, such as turkey, chicken, or even plant-based options for vegan recipes. Adjust the cooking time if using larger sausages, ensuring they are cooked thoroughly before serving.

What can I do if the gravy is too thick?

If your gravy turns out thicker than desired, simply add a little water or broth, stirring continuously until you reach the right consistency. This helps to maintain the flavor while adjusting the texture without compromising the dish.

Is there a way to make this dish spicier?

Certainly! To add more heat, consider incorporating diced jalapeños or a splash of hot sauce when mixing the liquids. You can also use spicy sausage varieties. Just remember to adjust the seasoning to balance the added spice.
