Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 c. lukewarm milk
  • 2 Tbsp. honey or sugar
  • 3/4 c. powdered milk
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. cooked wild rice
  • 5 to 6 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Heat milk to lukewarm and add honey or sugar; stir to dissolve.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the milk mixture.
  4. Stir in dry powdered milk and oil.
  5. Gradually add flour and cooked wild rice, mixing well.
  6. Pour dough onto a floured surface and knead in additional flour until slightly sticky.
  7. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  8. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead well.
  9. Divide the dough into two and place in greased loaf pans.
  10. Let the loaves rise until doubled in size.
  11. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes until lightly browned.
  12. Remove from oven, brush with butter while still warm.
