Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising white cornmeal
  • 1 egg
  • a heap of salt
  • buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat a cast-iron skillet and grease it well.
  2. Cook the cornbread in the skillet at 450°F for about 20 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of self-rising white cornmeal, 1 egg, and a heap of salt.
  4. Add buttermilk gradually until the mixture is soupy and well combined.
  5. Crumble the cooked cornbread into the mixture and stir to combine.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish or leave in the skillet.
  7. Bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the dressing is set.
