Ingredients

  • 7 c. popped popcorn
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/3 c. molasses
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or bowl, butter the bottom and sides.
  2. Pour in the popped popcorn.
  3. Over medium heat, cook sugar, water, molasses, butter, salt, and vanilla.
  4. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  5. To test if it is done, pour some cold water into a small bowl; then pour a tablespoon of the molasses mixture into the water.
  6. If you can pick it up in a ball, it is ready to be poured over the popcorn.
  7. Mix well to coat the popcorn evenly.
  8. Cool slightly and then form into balls.
