Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. shortening
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. plain flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/4 c. sweet milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder.
  4. Alternately add the flour mixture and sweet milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  5. Stir in vanilla.
  6. Pour batter into a greased and floured large tube pan.
  7. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 1 1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
