Ingredients

  • 2 yeast cakes
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 c warm water
  • 1 c warm milk
  • 6 Tbsp melted lard
  • 3/4 c sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Let the yeast melt in the warm water.
  2. Mix all the ingredients together.
  3. Save about 4 cups of flour for later use.
  4. Use an electric beater to beat eggs, sugar, and salt.
  5. Add milk and melted lard; then add flour gradually until a nice dough forms.
  6. Let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough with floured hands and let it rise again.
  8. Flour your hands and divide the dough into small loaves, placing them in a 15 x 15-inch pan.
  9. Let the loaves rise again, then bake at 350°F until light brown.
  10. Remove from oven, let cool, then pull or cut the loaves apart.
  11. Return the loaves to the pan and dry in a 300°F oven without burning.
