Tips & Substitutions

For a spicier kick, consider adding jalapeños or using a spicier taco mix. You can substitute Greek yogurt for the plain yogurt for a thicker consistency. If you prefer a vegetarian option, use a meatless chili instead of Skyline chili. For a lighter version, opt for low-fat sour cream and cream cheese. This dip also works great as a spread for wraps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this dip ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the layers a day in advance. Just keep the layers separated until you're ready to serve to maintain freshness. Assemble the dip in a 9x13 inch pan, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate. Just before serving, add the shredded lettuce and cheese on top.

What can I substitute for the Skyline chili?

You can use any canned chili of your choice, but if you're looking for a vegetarian option, consider using Vegetable Chili(Vegetarian). Just ensure it has a similar consistency for layering. Homemade chili can also work if you have a favorite recipe. Adjust the seasoning accordingly for best results.

How can I adjust the spice level of this dip?

To control the spice level, choose a mild taco mix and use mild salsa. If you enjoy heat, add diced jalapeños or opt for a spicier salsa. Additionally, consider incorporating hot sauce into the cream cheese layer for an extra kick, adjusting to your taste preference.
