Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 4 large apples, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, sugar, and baking powder.
  2. Add the beaten egg and mix well.
  3. Spread the thinly sliced apples in an 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
  4. Cover the apples with the flour mixture.
  5. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg, then add 2 tablespoons of additional sugar.
  6. Dot the mixture with butter.
  7. Sprinkle with cold water.
  8. Bake in a 350°F oven until the apples are cooked and the top is slightly browned.
