Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted plain flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, margarine, and sugar thoroughly.
  2. Add egg yolk, then incorporate sifted flour, salt, and vanilla until a dough forms.
  3. Grease a 10 x 15-inch cookie sheet and spread the dough evenly using your fingers dusted with flour.
  4. Beat the egg white until frothy and brush it over the surface of the dough.
  5. Sprinkle sliced almonds over the dough and press them down gently with your hand.
  6. Bake at 275°F (135°C) for 45 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.
  7. Remove from oven and allow to cool for a few minutes.
  8. Cut into desired portions while still warm.
