Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs and beat well to combine.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture until well incorporated.
  5. Chill the dough for 2 hours or more.
  6. Form the chilled dough into walnut-sized balls.
  7. Roll each ball in a mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon.
  8. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
