- Combine flour, oatmeal, brown sugar, butter, salt, and vanilla. Press into the bottom of a 9 x 12-inch pan, saving some crumbs for the top.
- Boil apple slices in 1/4 cup water until partly done.
- Add 1 cup granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons cornstarch to the apples.
- Pour the apple mixture over the crust.
- Sprinkle the reserved crumbs on top.
- Bake at 350°F for 25 minutes.
