Ingredients

  • 4 cups thinly sliced eating apples
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • dash of salt
  • shortcake mixture (using 3 cups biscuit mix)
  • whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

  1. Put apples, cranberries, water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan; bring to a boil.
  2. Cover and simmer until apples are tender.
  3. Bake shortcake in two 8-inch layers.
  4. Place the hot apple mixture between the layers and on top of the hot shortcake.
  5. Cut into wedges and serve with whipped cream, if desired.
