These moist, flavorful applesauce spice muffins combine warm cinnamon, cloves, and allspice with applesauce, making a perfect treat for breakfast or snack, enjoyed by all ages.

Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 3 tsp. allspice
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 c. hot applesauce
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together. Add eggs and mix well.
  2. Mix cinnamon, ground cloves, and allspice with the sifted flour.
  3. Combine the baking soda with hot applesauce and heat slightly.
  4. Add the flour mixture and the applesauce mixture to the creamed butter and sugar. Mix in vanilla.
  5. Grease small muffin pans and fill with the batter.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until golden.
  7. While warm, roll muffins in powdered sugar.
  8. These muffins are even better the next day and freeze well.
